The International Board of Lactation Consultants Examiners (IBLCE) is a non-profit organisation governed by a Board of Directors. It was established to develop and administer the certification examination for lactation consultants and sets professional standards for practice.
The IBLCE examination is a global qualification and the only internationally recognised measure of knowledge and expertise in lactation consulting. IBCLC Lactation Consultants are required to keep up-to-date with recent research and practice and must re-certify every five years.

The Lactation Consultants of Great Britain (LCGB), established in 1994, is the UK association for practitioners who hold the IBCLE qualification. The Association specialises in promoting, protecting and supporting breastfeeding and lactation issues. Click the logo to visit the website of the Lactation Consultants of Great Britain.
Who else might be helping you?
There are so many different terms and titles these days for those offering breastfeeding support that it is easy to be confused. This link will give you some insight into the differences in scope and training of different levels of helpers.
N.B.: This is not the whole story, of course. There are many very skilled, knowledgeable and compassionate peer supporters who will help you through a crisis. There are also highly trained professionals who might not provide the level of help that you require or would expect. Much comes down to the individual and often it can be a family member, your partner or a friend who truly supports you when you need it most.
As an IBCLE Lactation Consultant, I feel that my strength is to be able to take account of all aspects of a given situation and to draw upon my knowledge and wealth of experience to offer strategies and options that will work for you and your family.
